'Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark' Hit With Federal Safety Violations

U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration slaps musical with three citations.

He's been hunted by the Green Goblin, The Lizard, and Venom, but the webbed avenger just got challenged by what might be his most powerful foe yet: The U.S. government.

Already plagued by problems ranging from delays, to rewrites to actor injuries, the Julie Taymor directed musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" and its production company, 8 Legged Productions LLC, have been issued three citations for violations of workplace safety standards by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), according to a report in The New York Times.

The beleaguered musical, which has reportedly cost upwards of $65 million to finance, faces a proposed fine of $12,600.

The citations were issued in response to injuries to four separate actors, sustained during performances beginning in September 2010. Most notable among these injuries was a November 28 incident in which cast member Natalie Mendozaand suffered a concussion and a December 20 incident in which Christopher Tierney, the actor portraying Spider-Man himself, fell into the orchestra pit and suffered a fractured skull and our broken ribs among other injuries.

"'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark'" remains in compliance with all government agencies and continues to adhere to all safety protocols," Rick Miramontez, a spokesman for the production said in a statement.

The citations, which come on the heels of two violations issued by The New York State Department of Labor, are the latest in a long line of troubles for the musical, the sum total of which prompted Taymor to recently describe the production as a "trial by fire."

"I am in the crucible right now. It is my trial by fire. It's my company's trial by fire. We have survived because our theme song is 'Rise Above,'" Taymor said during the TED2011 conference in Long Beach, California. "Anyone who creates knows when it's not quite there. Where it hasn't quite become the phoenix or the burnt char. And I am right there."

The production company has 15 business days to contest the violations.

Barring any more problems, "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," with music by Bono and The Edge, is set to premier March 15.

'American Idol' Wild-Card Choice Was 'Awful' For Jennifer Lopez

Judge laments that 'a lot of kids [went] home who deserved to be there.'

The first elimination show of the new season of "American Idol" has come and gone in history-making fashion. Host Ryan Seacrest announced on the show Thursday (Mar 3) that around 40 million votes were cast, narrowing the field of 24 hopefuls to 10 contestants, the biggest cuts in the show's history. Three more wild card contestants sang for their lives and were later added by judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson to make a top 13.

When MTV News caught up with the involved parties at Fox's afterparty to celebrate the "Idol" finalists, there were feelings of relief, joy and, for one judge, discomfort.

"Ugh. It was awful!" Lopez said of the deliberation that went on between the judges to select the three wild cards at the end of the show. "It was so tough. It was so hard, even up until the very last second. It was like, wait a minute, we really didn't know who to choose at the last minute. It could have gone any way. Even when we did it, when we announced it, we were like, 'Did we do the right thing?' I don't know."

Lopez went on to say that there was not really a right or wrong with so many talented contestants in the mix this year. "[We] were going to send somebody home that maybe deserved to be there," she said. "Probably a lot of kids [went] home who deserved to be there."

Stefano Langone snagged one of the lucky three wild card spots with his rendition of Smokie Norful's "I Need You Now," a decision he said he made for several reasons.

"I knew if it got to the point where I had to sing for the wild card, that I'd be singing for my life," Langone explained. "I needed a song that I'd done prior to this point that was the absolute perfect song for my voice, to show my soul, everything that I have, everything I could bring to the table as a musician."

Despite the anxiety involved in singing for his life, Langone said it was a great experience. "I had to work for that spot. I had to work to where I wanted to be, and I feel really blessed to have gotten that. I'm so thankful and honored and blessed. It's a dream."

Fellow wild-card winner Naima Adedapo felt the same way about her song choice, Donny Hathaway's "For All We Know."

"It really talks about what I wanted to talk about," she said. "That is, 'Love me tonight. I need you to put me through tonight. Let me show you who I am.' "

Adedapo added that hearing her name called as part of the top 13 had her almost floating on air.

"Words can't really express it, but it's like a high," she said. "It's like being elevated somewhere. I feel like I wasn't even on earth anymore, I just kind of was happy and in the moment. I felt like I had an opportunity to really show them how much I really want it."

'American Idol' Top 13: The Experts Weigh In

All agree that Stefano Langone deserved his second chance, but some think Kendra Chantelle was robbed.
By Gil Kaufman

Hearts were broken, some dreams were dashed and others were realized while a trio of singers was saved from the pop-culture trash heap on Thursday night during the two-hour "American Idol" results show.

We reached out to some of our favorite "Idol"izers to get their take on the action on the elimination extravaganza, and while they all had their complaints about who did and didn't make the cut, the one thing they could all agree on was that Stefano Langone absolutely killed it when the chips were down.

Entertainment Weekly critic Annie Barrett said that for the most part, the top 13 was dead-on. "Everyone who we knew in our hearts should be in the top 10 was voted in," she said of such finalists as Casey Abrams, Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery, Jacob Lusk, James Durbin, Paul McDonald and Pia Toscano.

"The one surprise was that Haley Reinhart was voted into the top 10 by America," she said of the singer who did a competent but unimpressive take on "Fallin' " by Alicia Keys this week. "I don't think she would have gotten a judges' wild card." Barrett was firmly behind the decision to give Langone a second chance and said he killed it during his take on Smokie Norful's "I Need You Now," which she said was full of feeling and emotion.

As for the other wild-card winners, Barrett said Naima Adedapo did a nice job after choosing the wrong song on Wednesday night and proved she deserved to be on the show, but she wasn't feeling Ashthon Jones. "I didn't think she was good last night," said Barrett of Jones' just-OK attempt at the "Dreamgirls" number "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going."

"I'm surprised, but not surprised they wanted her because of who she is and what she looks like," said Barrett. "She has that diva attitude and she's a good character, so it's good casting."

MTV's resident "Idol" expert, Jim Cantiello, for one, was pissed at America and the judges for not giving Bette Midler-esque Lauren Turner another chance. "I'm livid with the judges for not letting her sing for a wild-card spot," said Cantiello of the sassy former housecleaner. "Other than that, I'm not mad at the results, a far cry from last season's semi-final bloodbath. Brett [Loewenstern] and Rachel [Zevita] were fun distractions, Robbie [Rosen] and Kendra [Chantelle's] attempts at nuance went over the collective head of the voters, and Tim [Halperin] and Julie [Zorrilla] were both contestants who wilted without instruments."

For Cantiello, and for everyone, really, the night's highlight was wild card Langone's game-changing "I Need You Now," which he said blew him away. "By the end of the two hours, America (and the judges) had selected a diverse, solid top 13 that should have us all glued to our TVs for the rest of the season. We have belters, young countrified whippersnappers, two sassy divas (one male, one female), a sex kitten, an exotic flower, a hair-metal throwback, and however you'd categorize Paul McDonald and Casey Abrams."

TVLine.com "Idol" recapper Michael Slezak, was adamant about one thing: Chantelle was robbed, robbed, he tells you! "Call 911, that was a felony!" he said of Chantelle's failure to earn a wild-card berth despite what he called her show-stopping performance of "Georgia on My Mind" during her second-chance slot on Thursday's show. "There's no way you can tell me [after that performance] that the judges didn't have minds made up of who was going into the top 13. I think those six performances we saw were a bit of 'Idol' theater more than them making their decisions."

Slezak also had high praise for Langone's slam-dunk effort, saying the judges had already declared how much they liked him on Tuesday, even if America didn't seem ready to commit. He thought the top 13 was solid and has him excited in a way last season's finalists didn't, mostly because there are no clear front-runners amid a talented group of vocalists who all have different, interesting strengths.

"Last year, Crystal, Lee and Big Mike had already emerged at this point as ones to watch," he said. "But while some of this year's contestants have gotten more airtime, there are seven or eight [contestants] with a legitimate chance to take home the top prize."

Among his picks to watch are Toscano, whose story we haven't really heard yet and who clearly was saving something in the tank considering her wow-worthy final slot on . He also likes McDonald's "young Bradley Cooper-meets Mumford & Sons" look and style, though he worries the smiling singer's quirky nature could doom him to "Idol" also-ran status.

"I'm hoping Stefano remembers that feeling every time he takes the stage," Slezak said of Langone's go-for-broke emotional performance in the wild-card round. "It would behoove the other contestants to play that every time they take the stage to remind them that it's do-or-die each time."

Mike Myers Married Girlfriend Kelly Tisdale Five Months Ago

Actor's rep just confirmed the private ceremony on Friday.

Get ready to hear a whole lot of "International Man of Mystery" jokes. Comedic actor Mike Myers of the "Austin Powers" and "Shrek" franchises married his longtime girlfriend Kelly Tisdale in a private ceremony ... five months ago.

A rep for Myers confirmed the news to the New York Post's Page Six that the 47-year-old "Saturday Night Live" alum wed Tisdale after roughly four years of dating. The rep told the newspaper that the under-the-radar ceremony for the secretive couple was "beautiful."

This marks the second marriage for Myers, who split from his wife of 12 years, writer/actress Robin Ruzan, in late 2005. Myers used Ruzan's mother Linda as the inspiration for his popular "SNL" skit "Coffee Talk" and credited Ruzan herself for encouraging him to make the "Austin Powers" films.

Tisdale and Myers began dating shortly after his split from Ruzan. Tisdale, who is said to be in her 30s, was previously romantically linked to musician Moby, with whom she founded the New York café Teany.

Myers, who hosted the MTV Movie Awards in 2008, was last seen (or heard, rather) on the big screen in 2010's "Shrek Forever After," but more recently stopped by "SNL" to help out his old friend, host Dana Carvey, with a "Wayne's World" sketch.

Britney Spears' 'Till The World Ends' Hits Web

Femme Fatale's second single was penned by Ke$ha.
By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears' new single, "Till the World Ends," sounds poised to be a club smash. The Ke$ha-written, Dr. Luke/Max Martin-produced track was posted by Perez Hilton on Thursday afternoon (March 3), after speculation earlier in the day that the song would hit radio next week.

"Till the World Ends" is a swirling, "beat the beat" track, ready for late nights spent "dancing till the world ends" as she sings on the fast-paced party jam. "This kitten got your tongue tied in knots I see/ Spit it out 'cause I'm dying for company," a confident Spears purrs.

As the song slows for a moment — during a break before she moves her way to the chorus — she sings, "I can't take it take it take no more/ Never felt like felt like this before/ Come on get me get me on the floor/ DJ, what you what you waiting for?" she teases.

The beat chugs in the background as synths play with Spears' sex-kitten delivery of lines like "Watch me move/ When I lose, when I lose it hard/ Get you off with a touch/ Dancing in the dark.

"See the sunlight/ We ain't stopping/ Keep on dancing till the world ends/ If you feel it/ Let it happen/ Keep on dancing till the world ends," she sings as the song breaks down, fading out for a brief moment (revealing her signature breathiness), and then coming back in as she repeats those final lines again to close the song.

Ke$ha recently dished about the track to Spin.com, noting that it is about the power of an artist performing a great gig. "That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world," she said. "You know, when you go out, and you're having an amazing, magical night and you don't want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends."

"Till the World Ends" is the second single from Femme Fatale, set to drop March 29. Its lead single, "Hold It Against Me," was an equally club-friendly jam by Luke and Martin, who are overseeing production on the album.
